Chris Brown has been released on £5 million (approximately $6.7 million USD) bail after being formally charged in the United Kingdom with grievous bodily harm.
The charges stem from an alleged assault on music producer Abe Diaw at London’s Tape nightclub in February 2023.
According to court documents, Brown is accused of striking Diaw with a tequila bottle in what has been described as an unprovoked and violent attack. The incident reportedly continued after the victim was unconscious, with surveillance footage submitted as key evidence in the case.
Brown was arrested in Manchester on May 15, 2025. Initially denied bail due to the severity of the accusations and concerns about flight risk, the singer was later granted release by Southwark Crown Court under strict conditions. These include a requirement to reside at a court-approved address, surrender his passport when not touring, and avoid any contact with the alleged victim or co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu—known professionally as HoodyBaby—who faces related charges.
Despite the legal proceedings, Brown has been permitted to continue with his upcoming world tour, Breezy Bowl XX, which marks his 20th anniversary in the music industry. The tour is set to launch on June 8 with a sold-out performance in Amsterdam.
Brown’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 20. He has not yet entered a plea. In addition to the criminal case, a civil lawsuit seeking $16 million in damages has been filed by Diaw.
This latest development adds to Brown’s long history of legal controversies, once again placing his career under scrutiny as fans and critics await the outcome of the case.
