Katy Perry is Going to Space with an All-Women Crew

Pop star Katy Perry is set to travel to space as part of an all-women flight on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket.

She will be joined by Jeff Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sanchez, CBS presenter Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

Blue Origin announced that this will be the first all-female spaceflight since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963. The launch is expected to take place this spring, though no exact date has been confirmed.

Perry, who will embark on her Lifetimes Tour from April to November, expressed excitement about the mission. “If you had told me I’d be part of the first all-female crew in space, I would have believed you. Nothing was beyond my imagination as a child,” she said.

The NS-31 mission will mark Blue Origin’s 11th human spaceflight and its 31st mission overall. The fully autonomous trip will last about 11 minutes, taking passengers past the Kármán line—the internationally recognized boundary of space.
