Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, President Donald Trump said he plans to announce a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports into the United States on Monday.
“We’ll also be announcing steel tariffs on Monday. Any steel coming into the United States is going to have a 25% tariff—aluminum, too,” Trump said.
During his previous administration in 2018, Trump also imposed a 25% tariff on steel and a 10% tariff on aluminum. However, he later lifted those tariffs on Mexico and Canada in 2019.
Last week, Trump imposed a 10% tariff on all Chinese goods imported into the U.S., adding to the existing tariffs already in place on China.
Trump also stated that he plans to hold a separate news conference on Tuesday or Wednesday to announce new reciprocal tariffs, which would match other countries’ tariffs on U.S. goods dollar-for-dollar.
“Very simply, if they charge us, we charge them,” Trump said.
